Kesko’s sales in May
The sales of Kesko Group’s continuing operations in May 2020 totalled €936.0 million, representing a decrease of 3.9%. In comparable terms, sales decreased by 3.3%.
“Kesko’s sales decreased in May by 3.9% due to the number of delivery days. In the grocery trade, food sales continued to grow in K-food stores. In the building and technical trade, sales grew in the building and home improvement trade in local currencies in all countries. Sales in the car trade decreased compared to the year before,” says Mikko Helander, Kesko’s President and CEO.
Sales in the grocery trade division totalled €458.0 million in May, a decrease of 4.8%. Grocery sales to K-food stores increased by 5.2%.The month had one wholesale selling day less than the year before. Kespro’s sales decreased by 46%. Sales also decreased for home and speciality goods in K-Citymarket.
Sales in the building and technical trade division totalled €420.6 million in May, an increase of 4.7% in comparable terms in local currencies. Sales in the building and technical trade excluding the speciality goods trade grew by 4.6% in comparable terms. Sales in Finland grew by 3.0% and sales elsewhere by 5.9%. In the speciality goods trade, sales in the leisure trade increased by 8.4%. Reported sales in the building and technical trade increased by 1.1%.
Sales in the car trade division totalled €59.3 million in May, a decrease of 23.5%. In comparable terms, sales decreased by 32.8%.

Change % indicates the change when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The comparable change % has been calculated in local currencies and excluding the impact of acquisitions and divestments completed in 2019 and 2020.
The reported sales for Kesko Group’s continuing operations include the acquisitions and divestments completed in 2019 and 2020, in accordance with the dates of completion. Acquisitions completed in 2019 included Sørbø Trelast AS and Fresks Group in the building and technical trade, and the Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT businesses of Huittisten Laatuauto, LänsiAuto and Laakkonen in the car trade. In 2020, the building and technical trade division has completed the acquisition of Mark & Infra i Sverige AB and the divestment of Konekesko’s machinery trade operations in the Baltics.
In May 2020, the number of wholesale selling days in Kesko's grocery trade was 24, which is one day less than the year before. The number of wholesale selling days in Kesko’s building and technical trade in Finland was 19, which is two days fewer than the year before. In January-May, the grocery trade had one and building and technical trade in Finland two fewer wholesale selling days than the corresponding period the year before.
