In a response to customer requests, Kesko’s technical wholesale company Onninen has introduced a new report which details the emissions arising from Onninen’s transport and packaging of products in Finland. The report helps Onninen’s B2B customers track the carbon footprint of the products that they order.

The impact of the green transition can be seen in the figures for Kesko’s technical wholesale subsidiary Onninen: as the biggest importer of solar power systems in Finland, Onninen saw its related sales quadruple in 2022. Moreover, the sales of solar power products have yet to peak. Meanwhile, consumers shopping at our K-Rauta building and home improvement stores are also showing increased interest in solar power, thanks to the rise in energy costs and more affordable solar panel prices.

Making heart-friendly yet affordable choices at the grocery store will be easier once the Heart Symbol is added to familiar Pirkka products. To date, almost a hundred Pirkka products have been granted the right to use the Heart Symbol, and the symbol has already been added to the packaging of more than 30 products. K Group is committed to facilitating choices that promote wellbeing by setting health targets and making nutrition commitments.

Beehives on store roofs, collaboration work to save endangered migratory fish, more sustainable soy and cotton – Kesko and K-retailers have been carrying out work to prevent biodiversity loss for a long time. Kesko aims to adopt a more systematic approach to its biodiversity work and set specific targets and indicators for the work in each division. Ideas for this were sought in a recently completed nature pilot involving various companies, FIBS and Sitra.

The Hyvis product line, which is made with food that would otherwise go to waste, is complemented with the new vegan Hyvis sweet pepper and lentil soup. Adding products made with wasted food to the selection of K food stores is part of K Group’s actions to halve the amount of food waste.

A solar power plant will be built for the new logistics center in Hyvinkää intended for Onninen and K-Auto. Emission-free energy will be produced by solar panels covering an area of 6,400 m2, supplied from Onninen’s wide range of products.
