Poor plastic recycling costs Finland EUR 90 million every year – K Group has collected more than 1,100 tonnes of plastic packaging from stores for recycling

Since Finland is falling short of the EU’s plastic recycling targets, it has to pay an annual EUR 90 million own-resource contribution to the EU. Reaching the targets will require more efficient sorting of plastic. K Group has already recycled a total of 1,138 tonnes of plastic packaging waste generated in its stores and other business locations, equivalent to about 55 million plastic carrier bags.

Dow Jones sustainability assessment: Kesko ranks among the top companies in its industry globally

Kesko has been included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World and Dow Jones Best-in-Class Europe sustainability indices (DJ BIC). Kesko is among the five companies in its industry to be included in the Best-in-Class World index, and among the two to be included in the Best-in-Class Europe index.

Food waste reduced by one million kilograms – K-food stores’ order volumes managed through forecasting

The product selection available on the shelves of K-food stores at any given time is no coincidence. Accurate demand-based forecasting is used to plan the selection and orders – this is the K-food stores’ most important tool for minimising food waste. During 2025, K Group succeeded in reducing food waste by approximately one million kilograms.

Reusable containers for takeaway food – unique trial under way in the Helsinki region

During the spring, Kesko, S Group and nine other companies are jointly testing reusable takeaway containers with a deposit and related return system. During the pilot, customers at four stores can choose a reusable container for takeaway food instead of a single-use one. The Kiertis pilot is linked to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and one of the aims of this is to promote the reuse of packaging.

Heart Symbol products were chosen more frequently in 2025 – K Group expands its selection of Heart Symbol products

Sales of Heart Symbol products in K-food stores grew by around 5 per cent in 2025. The K Group’s own-brand ranges – Pirkka, Pirkka Parhaat and K-Menu – will soon offer 250 Heart Symbol products across different product groups. The Heart Symbol is one of the ways retailers can help customers make choices that support their wellbeing.

Europe’s 50 most sustainable companies listed, Kesko again ranks highest among ‘Grocery Stores’

Kesko ranks as the most sustainable company in the European ‘Grocery Stores’ peer group in the new ‘Europe 50 Most Sustainable Corporations’ listing. Kesko ranks the highest of Finnish companies on the list, which also include Kone and Nokia.
