Kesko’s reported sales grew in August

The sales of Kesko Group’s continuing operations in August 2019 totalled €963.5 million, representing a decrease of 1.0% in comparable terms. Reported sales from continuing operations grew by 1.6%.

Day care for children enabled Chinese migrant families to be spend the summer together

In July, K Group opened a children’s summer day care facility at a lamp factory in China together with the international organisation the Center for Child Rights and Corporate Social Responsibility (CCR CSR). For six weeks, some 30 children of factory employees attended the day care, and could therefore spend the summer with their parents in the city. Both the families and factory management were very pleased with the project.

Hanna Jaakkola, M.Sc. (B.A.), has been appointed Kesko’s Vice President of Investor Relations as of 2 September 2019. Hanna has extensive experience in investor relations and she has previously held similar positions at the construction company YIT and the shopping centre company Citycon.

Little big deed: Two brothers with partial work ability are happy team members at a Neste K service station

Work and colleagues are important also to people with partial work ability. However, only 2% of the 25,000 disabled people in Finland have paid work. Mika Huikko, the K-retailer of the Neste K Keimola Itä service station, offered jobs to Niko and Kaitsu Lahtinen, and now the station is like a second home to the brothers.

K Group is creating a carbon footprint calculator for grocery purchases

K Group will introduce a tool that will show its K-Plussa customers the carbon footprint of their food purchases from K Group’s grocery stores. This will make it easier for the customers to track the environmental impact of their purchases, and to make more sustainable choices. The carbon footprint calculator is being developed in collaboration with the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and will be integrated into K Group’s K-Ostokset service, which is already helping customers track how much Finnish products they are buying.

IONITY and K Group to open Finland’s most efficient electric car charging station at Neste K Paimio

IONITY and K Group will open Finland’s fastest electric car charging station at Neste K Paimio in October. High Power Charging (HPC) points offer a charging capacity that is seven times higher than that of current fast chargers. Initially, the HPC station in Paimio will have charging points for two cars, but this can be raised to six charging points, as demand grows. Work on the station began in Paimio today. IONITY’s high power charging stations in Finland are part of its Pan-European network and will complement K Group’s own nationwide K Charge network.

Certification labels verify the sustainable origin of wood for customers

Finland is one of the most heavily-forested countries in the world, with forests making up over 70% of its area. Finns use wood and paper products every day, and trust they are being ecological in doing so. What they often do not think about are problems related to forests globally, such as illegal logging and deforestation, which is why Finnish consumers do not necessarily check the origin of a terrace board or wall panel they are buying.

K Group and the Finnish 4H Federation collaborate to offer young people summer jobs

K Group has made an agreement with the Finnish 4H Federation to promote the financial, entrepreneurial and work-life skills of 15 and 16 year-olds who are finishing comprehensive school. The objective is to offer summer jobs to as many young people as possible.
