Kesko’s new, even more challenging emissions reductions targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Kesko’s new emissions reductions targets with which Kesko commits to the most ambitious aim of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The Science Based Targets initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact initiative, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The K Fishpaths cooperation project improved the living conditions of endangered migratory fish – 100 kilometres of new habitats were made available

The five-year cooperation project between WWF Finland and K Group to improve the living conditions of migratory fish was successful beyond expectations. The project represented a new type of collaboration for both parties. During the project, nearly 30 barriers in watercourses were removed that had previously prevented endangered migratory fish from accessing their spawning grounds. This made 100 kilometres of unobstructed habitats available for fish.

Dow Jones ranks Kesko among the world’s leading companies in sustainability

Kesko has been included in the esteemed Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the DJSI World. Kesko’s sustainability was assessed on criteria such as supply chain transparency and sustainable selections and personnel responsibility. New criteria this year included biodiversity and food waste.

K Group and Paulig join forces to promote sustainable coffee cultivation – 70,000 coffee plant seedlings to be planted in Nicaragua

K Group and Paulig are extending their collaboration to support the livelihood of coffee farmers and sustainable cultivation practices. The goal is to plant 70,000 new coffee plants at Paulig’s partner farms in Nicaragua. The customers of K grocery stores can take part in the project by buying Paulig’s Rainforest Alliance or UTZ-certified city coffee packages.

Construction has begun on the new online grocery order fulfilment system with 45 robots at K-Citymarket Ruoholahti in Helsinki

The new system will be the first automation-assisted order fulfilment system in Finland to be built on-site at a grocery store, enabling efficient deliveries to online customers while still giving them access to a wide range of speciality and service counter items. The system is expected to be ready in H1/2022.
