Kesko assesses the biodiversity footprint of private label products

Kesko’s first ever assessment of the nature footprint of its private label products in grocery trade shows that the impacts stem largely from a limited number of product categories and countries. As expected, meat and dairy products in particular contribute notably to the footprint. Somewhat surprisingly, bananas also stand out as a significant contributor. Finland’s share of the impact is small even though over half of the private label products in grocery trade are sourced from Finland. Kesko will use the results of the assessment to further develop its biodiversity efforts.

The tour’s third summer confirmed the strong demand for easily accessible events for the whole family.

Poor plastic recycling costs Finland EUR 90 million every year – K Group has collected more than 1,100 tonnes of plastic packaging from stores for recycling

Since Finland is falling short of the EU’s plastic recycling targets, it has to pay an annual EUR 90 million own-resource contribution to the EU. Reaching the targets will require more efficient sorting of plastic. K Group has already recycled a total of 1,138 tonnes of plastic packaging waste generated in its stores and other business locations, equivalent to about 55 million plastic carrier bags.

Food waste reduced by one million kilograms – K-food stores’ order volumes managed through forecasting

The product selection available on the shelves of K-food stores at any given time is no coincidence. Accurate demand-based forecasting is used to plan the selection and orders – this is the K-food stores’ most important tool for minimising food waste. During 2025, K Group succeeded in reducing food waste by approximately one million kilograms.
