NEW RETAILERS START IN 11 CITYMARKETS REPLACING THOSE WHO WERE GIVEN NOTICE

The 11 Citymarket retailers who were given notice by Kesko in February have assigned their store sites within the period of notice. New retailers have started their operations and the change of retailers has happened in all hypermarkets without interruptions in operations.

On 21 February 2001, Kesko sent a notice of termination to the 11 Citymarket retailers who did not sign the new chain agreement. The chain operations reform between Kesko and about 1,450 K-retailers was introduced at the beginning of 2001. The great majority of the Citymarket retailers (30) also signed the agreement at that time.

In the Citymarket hypermarkets, retailers are responsible as entrepreneurs for the food trade. Kesko’s subsidiary Citymarket Oy is responsible for the non-food trade. The new chain operating system is expected to significantly improve the K-stores’ efficiency and competitiveness.
