THE FIRST CITYMARKET IN TALLINN WILL BE OPENED ON THURSDAY

The first Citymarket in Tallinn starts the active expansion of Kesko Food in the capital of Estonia. Within a year, four Citymarket hypermarkets will be opened in Tallinn. The next one in turn will be the Citymarket in Haabersti, which will start operating before Christmas. The first Citymarket in Estonia was opened in Pärnu last spring.

The Citymarket to be opened in Tallinn on Thursday is located in the new Norde Centrum shopping centre in the harbour of Tallinn. The floor area of the Citymarket is about 5,000 m2. It employs staff of over 100 and offers a selection of nearly 30,000 products. In all, the Norde Centrum shopping centre houses 35 stores and restaurants.

At present, Kesko Food’s market share of Estonia’s food trading is about 20 percent. In addition to Citymarkets, Kesko Food owns Säästumarket, Estonia’s largest discount store chain with over 42 stores. Kesko Food has also three SuperNetto stores, of which the one located in Tartu will open its doors converted into a Citymarket next November.

Kesko has a 15,000 square metre logistics centre in Jüri, Tallinn. The centre supports the building of Kesko’s own retail store network and acts as a warehouse for imported goods. At the same time it is also an efficient distribution and export channel for the Estonian food industry.

Kesko Food’s objective is to reach a 25 percent share of the Baltic food market. In Riga, Latvia, there is one Citymarket and the first SuperNetto warehouse store. The second Citymarket in Riga will be opened at Pulkveza Brieza street before Christmas.
