All 156 K-supermarkets carry out a special fruit campaign on 11-13 February. Customers can choose from among over 30 different fruits, sold for one euro per kilo, pack, box or bag. The first campaign, organised last autumn, was much praised by customers.
Last year the increase in fruit sales clearly exceeded all expectations and customers' interest also continued after the campaign. So the targets are high for this year, too. The campaign is part of the K-supermarkets' larger campaign entitled 'Superpäivät'.
"Our customers value freshness, genuine flavours and a wide range to choose from. The campaign entices consumers to try more exotic fruits and increase the total amount of fruit in their diets," says Jaana Hertsberg, Marketing Director of the K-supermarket chain.
"Incentives are needed to make Finns eat more fruit, vegetables and berries. Besides valuable nutrients, they add colour and taste to our daily diets. A diversified use of fruit and vegetables in cooking creates new flavours and helps reduce the amount of salt that is harmful to health," says Marjaana Lahti-Koski, Manager, Development and Health Promotion, the Finnish Heart Association.
K-supermarkets' strengths include ample selections of fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, and the service-oriented deli counter. The chain's selections in different product groups are undergoing a constant development so as to respond to customers' changing eating habits. The chain offers plenty of choice for those following a healthy and balanced diet, including a wide selection of organic and Fairtrade products.
