Budget Sport takeoff exceeds expectations

Budget Sport, the large-scale sports store opened in May by Intersport Finland Ltd in Tammisto, Vantaa, has exceeded the expectations set for its first months of operation. The performance of the price-driven store concept has been in excess of its targets both in terms of visitors and sales.

During the months of May and June, the Vantaa store had a total of nearly 60,000 customers. In May only, the store sold over 110,000 individual products. In terms of sales, Budget Sport was Intersport Finland's best single sports store in both May and June.

"We are very happy about the performance of the new store concept," says Jussi Mikkola, Managing Director of Intersport Finland Ltd. "A particularly positive feature is that Budget Sport's good start has not reflected negatively on the sales of our other stores, which testifies to a genuine increase in sales and market share. Our sales in both May and June showed a double-digit growth."

The Vantaa Budget Sport is the biggest sports store of the Greater Helsinki area in terms of sales area and sales. Intersport Finland, which is part of the Kesko Group, plans to open a total of 6-8 large-scale Budget Sport stores in various parts of Finland during the next couple of years.

The store in Tammisto is also a pilot outlet of Intersport International and the new price-driven concept has attracted international attention. Intersport International plans to launch a chain of Budget Sport stores in various parts of Europe in the next few years.
