The hundredth store operating in the K-superstore chain will be opened in Hanko on Tuesday. The opening of K-supermarket Stigu, located in the centre of Hanko, was preceded by a renovation project during which the existing premises were extended by 500 m2 and the store type was changed from K-supermarket to K-superstore. In terms of grocery sales, the K-superstore chain is the second biggest in Finland.
The extension work in K-market Stigu started in the beginning of January. The total area of the new store is 2000 m2, of which 1200 m2 is selling area. In connection with renovation, the store was transformed from K-supermarket to K-superstore. The store will continue to be run by Stig Ekholm. For customers, these reforms will be manifest in a clearer store layout and a wider K-superstore product selection. Now the objective of K-supermarket Stigu is to strengthen its position of the market leader in Hanko. Summer residents and tourists add to the purchasing power of the area.
K-supermarket Stigu, which will be opened tomorrow, is the hundredth outlet operating in the K-superstore chain in Finland. The K-superstore chain is the second biggest Finnish grocery store chain with a total sales of FIM 5.5 billion in 1999. The most typical location for a K-superstore is a suburb or a major population centre. The K-superstores aim to be the most versatile and the most convenient shopping places of food, "Better than Average Grocery Stores".
The K-superstore chain invests in new store sites. New outlets were opened in May in Pori, Hämeenlinna, Kouvola and Hanko. In June, a new K-superstore will be opened in Sotkamo, Kokkola and Kankaanpää. In addition, seven renovated or completely new K-superstores are to be opened by the end of the year.
