Corporate Knights publishes its ’Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World’ listing annually at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. On this year’s list, Kesko ranks 50th overall, and higher than any other Finnish company. Kesko is the only company in the ’Grocery Stores’ peer group, consisting of 172 companies globally, to make the list.
The ‘Global 100’ selection is based on a sustainability assessment of more than 8,000 listed companies, in which the companies were assessed against three overarching criteria: what proportion of their investments and revenues are sustainable, and how fast their sustainable revenues are growing.

Kesko engages in sustainability work extensively in all three business divisions. In grocery trade, Kesko has in recent years invested heavily in, for example, the electrification of the transport fleet, and also introduced more plant protein products in its grocery store selections. In building and technical trade, Kesko has adopted an innovative circular economy solution developed in Finland, in which discarded wooden packaging from Onninen’s central warehouse in Hyvinkää is recycled for raw material for chipboard. In car trade, Kesko hosts its own EV charging network K-Lataus, which provides thousands of charging points across Finland.
The annual ‘Global 100’ listing was first published in 2005, and Kesko is the only company in the world to have made the list every year since.
