The ranking of the world’s 100 most sustainable corporations was based on a sustainability assessment of more than 6,000 listed companies, which were assessed on 25 indicators related to environmental and social responsibility and good corporate governance.
In 2023, Kesko ranked the second highest among grocery trade companies globally and the highest in Europe.
“Expectations for corporate sustainability are constantly growing. To maintain our position as an international forerunner, we must constantly evolve. We have set strict targets for sustainability work in our three divisions: grocery trade, building and technical trade, and car trade. Our objective is to enable sustainable choices for our customers, and to drive change throughout our value chain from production to consumption,” says Riikka Joukio, Kesko’s EVP of Sustainability and Public Affairs.
Kesko is the only company in the world to have made the Global 100 list of sustainable companies every year since the list’s inception in 2005. Kesko ranks 74th on this year’s list. Other Finnish companies on the list include Kone, Neste and Nordea.
Corporate Knights Inc. comprises its Corporate Knights magazine, which focuses on sustainable business themes, and a research division, which produces corporate sustainability rankings and ratings.
