The Helsinki District Court has today made its decisions and totally dismissed the actions of eight former K-citymarket retailers against Kesko Corporation. In their actions pending since 2001 and now dismissed they primarily claimed compensation in a total of EUR 13.8 million from Kesko for notices claimed to have been contrary to agreements.
The District Court ordered the claimants to pay Kesko’s legal costs. The decision of the District Court is not legally binding.
The reform of chain operations between Kesko and K-retailers was introduced at the beginning of the year 2001. The new chain or customer agreement was accepted by about 1,450 retailers in all, representing over 98 percent of K-retailers. Some retailers did not accept the new chain agreement, which is why their agreements were terminated at the beginning of 2001. After that, nine K-citymarket retailers sued Kesko to the Helsinki District Court in April 2001. Later on, the former K-citymarket retailer operating in Salo withdrew his action.
