Anttila, the biggest seller of music in Finland, is focusing on a new sales channel and launching a digital online music store. Individual songs or whole albums can be downloaded at http://download.netanttila.com.
The Anttila digital online store offers the widest range of music in Finland. The 400,000 titles available include new and old music from the most popular performers representing all the biggest and several small record companies.
The emphasis is on Finnish music. ”The popularity of Finnish music is also reflected in sales. There were six Finnish performers on the list of the ten best-selling songs in May, including Antti Tuisku, Teräsbetoni, Yö, and Apulanta,” says Product Manager Joni Kopisto.
The price per song is EUR 1.19 and per album EUR 12.95. Customers can download individual songs one by one, if they wish, burn the music they have bought on a CD and transfer it to MP3 / WMA players. It is possible to listen to a sample of the music before making a purchase. There are several payment options.
Anttila wants to play an active role in contributing to the growth of legal online music providers. The co-operation agreement with the Finnish Composers' Copyright Society Teosto ensures that performing artists receive compensation for the music purchased via the download.netanttila.com site.
”It has been estimated that as much as 25 percent of the music will be sold in digital form in 2007. As the biggest seller of music in Finland, Anttila naturally wants to be a pioneer and offer its customers a new alternative for purchasing music. Our target is that online sales of digital music will exceed traditional music sales in a year”, says Mika Leiponen, Director responsible for Anttila Oy's distance trade.
