Kesko’s sales grew in June

Kesko Group's sales totalled €1,088.1 million in June 2022, representing an increase of 1.3% on the previous year. In comparable terms, sales grew by 1.5%.

"Kesko’s sales grew in the grocery trade division and building and technical trade division in June. Food trade sales were at a good level, with heavy growth in foodservice. In building and technical trade, good performance in technical wholesale resulted in growth,” says Mikko Helander, Kesko’s President and CEO.

Sales in the grocery trade division totalled €551.5 million in June, an increase of 3.3%. Grocery sales to K Group grocery stores were flat year-on-year. Sales in K-Citymarket’s home and speciality goods (non-food) increased. Kespro’s sales grew by 17.6%. In relative terms, consumption was weighted more towards foodservice than retail compared to last year.

Sales in the building and technical trade division totalled €459.4 million in June, an increase of 4.1% in comparable terms in local currencies. Excluding speciality goods trade, division sales grew by 3.9% in comparable terms. Sales grew in comparable terms by 9.2% in Finland and by 1.2% in Sweden and decreased by 7.1% in Norway. In speciality goods trade, leisure trade sales increased by 12.9% in comparable terms. Reported sales in the building and technical trade division increased by 3.8%.

Sales in the car trade division totalled €79.7 million in June, a decrease of 19.7%. Sales were impacted by the poor availability of cars. Registrations of new cars in Finland were down by 24.9% in passenger cars and 30.2% in vans compared to the year before. The number of used cars sold in Finland decreased by 10.3% year-on-year.

Change % indicates the change when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The comparable change % has been calculated in local currencies and excluding the impact of acquisitions and divestments completed in 2021 and 2022.

The reported sales for Kesko Group include the acquisitions and divestments completed in 2021 and 2022, in accordance with the dates of completion. In 2021, the building and technical trade division completed the acquisition of Byggarnas Partner and discontinued the operations of the Kookenkä shoe store chain. Acquisitions completed in 2022 comprise Kungälvs Trävaruaktiebolaget in Sweden and Byggmakker Seljord Elektriske Eigedomsutvikling AS in Norway.

In June 2022, the number of delivery days equalled that of last year in Kesko’s grocery trade and building and technical trade in Finland, while in Sweden and Norway, the number of delivery days was down by 1 year-on-year. In April-June, the number of delivery days was up by 1 year-on-year in Kesko's grocery trade in Finland, flat in building and technical trade in Finland and Norway, and down by 1 in Sweden. In January-June, the number of delivery days  was up by 1 year-on-year in Kesko’s grocery trade and building and technical trade in Finland, flat in Sweden, and up by 1 in  Norway. Saturdays are wholesale delivery days in grocery trade, but not in building and technical trade. Under normal circumstances, one delivery day has an approximately 2-4% impact on Kesko’s wholesale, depending on the division. The number or timing of delivery days in car trade does not have a similar impact on sales.
