Kesko’s sales grew in January

The sales of Kesko Group’s continuing operations in January 2020 totalled €843.5 million, representing an increase of 4.2%. The comparable sales for continuing operations increased by 1.9%. The month had one delivery day less than January last year.

“Kesko’s sales grew in January by 4.2%. Sales grew in all divisions. In the grocery trade, sales grew in all chains, underpinned by growth in customer numbers. Sales development was also good in the building and technical trade. In the car trade, sales were impacted by the acquisitions carried out in 2019,” says Mikko Helander, Kesko’s President and CEO.

Sales in the grocery trade totalled €435.2 million in January, an increase of 3.9% in comparable terms. Sales grew in all K-food store chains.

Sales in the building and technical trade totalled €325.6 million in January, an increase of 0.5% in comparable terms in local currencies. Comparable sales in the building and technical trade excluding the speciality goods trade grew by 2.1%. Sales in Finland grew by 0.7% and sales elsewhere by 3.5%. In the speciality goods trade, sales for the leisure trade decreased by 28.3% due to mild winter weather. Sales in the machinery trade grew by 24.3% in comparable terms. Reported sales in the building and technical trade increased by 2.5%.

Sales in the car trade totalled €84.0 million in January, representing a decrease of 1.6% in comparable terms. Reported sales increased by 15.1%.

Change, % indicates the change when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The comparable change % has been calculated in local currencies and excluding the impact of acquisitions and divestments completed in 2019.

The reported sales for Kesko Group’s continuing operations include the acquisitions carried out in 2019, which are Sørbø Trelast AS and Fresks Group in the building and technical trade, and the Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT businesses of Huittisten Laatuauto, LänsiAuto and Laakkonen in the car trade.

The number of delivery days in Kesko's wholesale in Finland in January 2020 was 21, which is one day less than the year before.
