Responsible purchasing

Responsible purchasing aims to ensure that our products are produced in socially sound conditions.  We are indirectly responsible for the working conditions and terms of employment of those who participate in producing our products. This applies especially to developing countries.

In our sourcing and purchasing, we are committed to the principles of Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)  and Kesko's own ethical purchasing principles.

We will continue to promote BSCI auditing. At the beginning of 2011, a total of 188 factories or farms of Kesko's suppliers in high-risk countries were in the BSCI auditing process. Kesko's target for 2011 is 90 initial BSCI audits and 55 re-audits.

In China, responsible purchasing is supported by our two monitors. They guide, train and monitor the suppliers in complying with employment terms and conditions and with environmental and chemical regulations. In 2010, they made 86 factory visits in China.
