2023 elections

Objectives for the 2023–2027 parliamentary term

TOWARDS A SUCCESSFUL FINLAND

Finland is undergoing major changes. The parliament elected for 2023-2027 must find solutions that create opportunities for Finns and enable the country’s success. As we approach the 2030s, we must be prepared to make changes that have real impacts.

Food, construction and traffic are key sectors for the society, and demand effort and input. Decisions made concerning these sectors impact significantly Finnish lives, the environment, and climate. It is also important to ensure access to services across the country. In 2023-2027, it is necessary to find more ways to improve Finland’s security of supply and readiness for upcoming changes.

Important themes for Finland in the future include:

ENSURING THE FUTURE OF FINNISH FOOD

Prerequisites for the success of Finnish food production must be secured and strengthened further. A high percentage of Finnish food and strong domestic grocery trade operators ensure availability also in challenging times.

  • Political decision-makers and the Finnish food chain together must promote the value of Finnish food – both in Finland and internationally. Selling Finnish food is the best way to support primary producers. For example, nearly 80% of the food sold in K Group grocery stores comes from Finland.

IMPROVING SECURITY OF SUPPLY IN PHARMACEUTICAL DISTRIBUTION

The model for the retail distribution of pharmaceuticals must be updated to meet the needs of the people. Ensuring access to medicine is a central element for security of supply, and that access should not vary depending on where people live.

  • We need to move towards a total overhaul, and should abandon the tightly restricted, person-specific model for the retail distribution of pharmaceuticals. Improving access to services both in physical stores and online. Utilising regulatory examples from similar countries

DISMANTLING OUTDATED REGULATION

Further changes are needed in Finnish alcohol legislation, which should enable an equal market and services.

  • Total overhaul of alcohol legislation. Acknowledging impacts on consumption, competitiveness and tax income. Utilising regulatory examples from similar countries.

DRIVING CLIMATE ACTION FOR TRAFFIC

Finland’s outdated vehicle stock must be updated with a determined approach: this is the only way to ensure that emission targets can be achieved.

  • Updates to the Finnish vehicle stock must be accelerated by changing the structure of car taxation and by creating incentives that enable newer, safer cars with lower emissions for an increasing number of Finns. The electrification of traffic also requires an extensive charging network that meets user needs.

ENSURING COMPETENCY LEVELS FOR ALL FINNS

The availability of skilled labour must be improved. Changes to the educational system are key in achieving this.

  • Education resources must be directed at sectors that need skilled workers now and in the future. Incentive traps must be removed to make work the most profitable source of income. Labour migration must be increased and migrant employment promoted.
