Kesko delivers best-ever quarterly result

Kesko published its Q3/2018 results on 24 October. Our comparable operating profit improved and rose to an all-time-high €113 million. Profit improved in the grocery trade and building and technical trade.

Performance in the grocery trade continued strong: sales, market share and profitability all improved in Q3. The importance of quality, selections and good online services continues to grow. Our online food sales grew by 74% on the year before and visitor numbers doubled. We have nearly doubled the number of stores across Finland offering online food sales, which now amount to over 140.

Operating profit in the building and technical trade excluding the speciality goods trade grew by €7 million. K-Rauta in Finland performed well, and Onninen's growth and profitability also strengthened further. Sales and profit in Norway increased thanks to the acquisitions made.

Car trade performed in line with our expectations. The division's net sales and operating profit were at a good level even though the implementation of the new WLTP emissions testing has a weakening impact on performance in the short term. The situation is expected to return to normal in H1/2019.
