The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Finnish Red Cross are once again organising the Hyvä Joulumieli (‘Good Holiday Spirit’) Christmas fundraising campaign for children and families in need. The donations will be used to provide gift vouchers to families to buy food for Christmas. K Group will take part in the fundraising, and the vouchers can be redeemed at K-food stores.
Poverty affects some 11,000 children in Finland. Childhood poverty will affect young people’s transition into independence and has consequences manifesting even in their adult lives.
The campaign aims to bring some Christmas cheer to underprivileged families in Finland by giving them gift vouchers for food. The campaign is now organised for the 22nd time. This year’s campaign began on 22 November and will continue until Christmas Eve. The target is to raise some 2 million euros, which would give 28,000 families a gift voucher of 70 euros that they can use to buy Christmas food from K-food stores or Lidl and S Group food stores.
