K Group joins global commitment to eliminate plastic pollution

Plastic waste is a global problem that requires action from all of us to save our planet. K Group bears its responsibility as a retailer, and has now joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment is led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with UN Environment, and it was officially unveiled at the Our Ocean Conference in Bali today.

In addition to K Group (Kesko), the 250 signatories include, for example, Nestlé, Unilever, H&M, Walmart, Ahold and Carrefour. The commitment is supported by e.g. the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The companies and organisations that have joined the commitment will work towards eliminating unnecessary plastic and plastic waste.

”This commitment supports our existing efforts to reduce and avoid the use of plastics. We want to show that when it comes to plastic, our objectives are ambitious on an international scale,” says Matti Kalervo, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at K Group.

K Group recently updated its own plastics policy, committing to e.g. reduce the amount of plastic in the packaging of its own brand products by 20% by the end of 2025. All packaging for K Group’s own brand products will be made recyclable by 2025.
