UN Sustainable Development Goals
We are committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our operations. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development concerns all countries. Its goal is to build a more sustainable future for us all.
Through its operations, Kesko has an impact on all 17 SDGs. We promote these goals through our strategy and sustainability work. We have identified five goals that are the most material for us in terms of our operations and stakeholders.

For Kesko, responsible consumption and production means sustainability in selections, production and products throughout their life cycles. Our goal is to increase the share of sustainable products in our net sales and to use data to encourage our customers to make more sustainable choices. We want to make the packaging for our own brands recyclable and promote the circular economy by means of various products and services. We aim to reduce the food waste generated in our operations by 50% by 2026.
Our focus on climate action means reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency in our operations, particularly in stores and logistics. We are aiming for a carbon-neutral K Group by 2025 and zero-emission operations by 2030. The Science Based Targets initiative has approved our science-based emissions reduction targets, through which we are committed to limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Through the CDP Supply Chain programme, we are working to reduce emissions in the supply chain, and we are also committed to reducing the emissions generated during the use of products.
Our goal is to prevent biodiversity loss and protect life on land in our operations and value chain. We will prepare a biodiversity programme and set goals for our biodiversity impacts. We are paying special attention to sourcing policies concerning products that pose a risk in terms of biodiversity loss (e.g. cocoa, coffee, soy, timber and paper).
Promoting gender equality is part of our human resources policy, sustainability strategy and the K Code of Conduct. Equal opportunities, fairness, non-discrimination and equality are important principles that are observed at Kesko. We seek to increase diversity in our workplace community. Our special focuses include ensuring salary equality and increasing the proportion of women in middle and senior management.
Decent work and economic growth mean that we serve as a responsible employer and increase people’s well-being and competence. In society, we promote security of supply, Finnish food production and local products. Through local action and projects, we seek to create well-being and vitality for communities. Through audits, we seek to ensure social responsibility and the realisation of human rights, especially in terms of production in high-risk countries.
